During his bilateral visit to Pakistan, the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization H.E. Dr. Asad M. Khan held a meeting with H.E. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Honourable Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan.
Dr. Khan provided an overview of ECO activities and initiatives and acknowledged Pakistan’s exceptional contributions in promoting parliamentary cooperation under ECO. Referreing to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO), which was proposed by Pakistan in 1993, the Secretary General highlighted the importance of universalization of PAECO membership and the Assembly’s significance in eliminating legislative barriers for trade promotion and integration. He thanked Pakistan for hosting the PAECO Secretariat and emphasised the importance of formalising the arrangement at the earliest.
The meeting concluded with a mutual committment to effectively operationalise PAECO for deeper integration of the ECO region.
