On the sidelines of his visit to Islamabad to attend the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul (ITI) Rail and Road Corridor meetings, the ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan held a meeting with the Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, H.E. Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain.
The Secretary General conveyed his sympathies and condolences over the loss of lives and property due to the recent floods in Pakistan, and sought an update on the damage particularly in the agriculture sector of the country.
Following up on their previous interaction, they discussed the prospects regarding three specific initiatives, namely, Establishment of ECO Regional Seed Vault/Bank, ECO Climate Smart Agriculture Center, and Regional Locust Control Mechanisms.
The meeting further reviewed preparations for the upcoming 8th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture, on 17–18 November 2025 in Iran, which will provide a platform for high-level dialogue on sustainable agriculture, policy coordination, and steering regional cooperation to advance agricultural priority areas and food security initiatives across the ECO region.
