ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan met with His Excellency Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.
Foreign Minister Bayramov congratulated Dr. Khan on his appointment and expressed Azerbaijan’s full support for ECO activities and initiatives aimed at greater regional integration. He provided an overview of preparations for the upcoming COP29 event, scheduled to be held in Baku from November 11-22, 2024, highlighting key side events and anticipated outcomes.
Dr. Khan also congratulated Azerbaijan on its COP29 Presidency and noted that Baku is rapidly becoming a prominent international conference hub. He informed the Minister about the planned Ministerial Meeting on “Empowering Interregional Partnerships for Circular Economy Transition” and the inauguration of the ECO Clean Energy Center, both set to take place on the sidelines of COP29. Dr. Khan also emphasized the importance of promoting Shusha, selected as the ECO Tourism Capital for 2026, and proposed close collaboration with local authorities to maximize the city’s visibility and opportunities.
The meeting further addressed other significant upcoming events, including the High-Level Committee Meeting on ECO reforms, aimed at developing substantial proposals for the next ECO Summit, to be held in Azerbaijan in 2025.
