On October 22, 2022, the Secretary General Economic Cooperation Organisation, H.E. Amb. Khusrav Noziri, participated in the International Conference on “Iran & IORA: Prospects and Opportunities”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), an inter-governmental organisation of 23 Member States and a host of Dialogue Partners, commemorates its 25th Anniversary of its establishment this year.
The conference provided an opportunity for exchange of views on existing and potential prospects and opportunities for enhanced and enriched participation of Iran in the IORA in the coming years.
While delivering statement at the opening session of the conference, ECO Secretary General congratulated the IORA Member States on silver jubilee of the Organisation and commended the Islamic Republic of Iran for successful organisation of the event. Since Iran sits just at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz and possesses huge coastline with deep sea ports, the Secretary General shed light on the important role of Iran in the IORA, mentioning the fact that Iran hosts Regional Center of Science and Technology (RCSTST), which is one of the two Specialised Agencies of the IORA.
The Secretary General mentioned that the ECO always welcomed partnership relations with organizations of its kind and highlighted commonalities between the IORA and the ECO especially in the fields on Trade & Investment, Disaster Management, and Tourism. It was opined that with the assistance from Iran which is member to both Organizations, the ECO and the IORA could come into collaborative partnership with each other via signing a Memorandum of Understanding.
