The ECO Secretary General, H.E. Amb. Khusrav Noziri participated in the Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held under the Chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan on September 15-16, 2022 in Samarkand.
The Heads of SCO Member States, Observer States, Dialogue Partners, Representatives of Regional and International Organizations attended the event.
The highest SCO event featured discussions on important regional and global issues, including trade, energy security, food security, climate change and other common challenges confronting Member States. Moreover, the efforts for making the SCO an epitome of effective multilateralism, ensuring peace and stability in the region as well as combatting non-traditional security threats came under limelight.
The Shanghai Five, established in 1996, transformed as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in 2001 following the addmission of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a regular member of the body. The Islamic Republic of Iran has also been accepted to be a full-fledged member of the Organization. The Member States also welcomed the newly-enrolled Observers and hoped that the expansion of the Organisation would make it more pluralistic and vibrant.
The 23rd SCO Summit will be hosted by India in 2023.
