As part of his visit to the People’s Republic of China to attend the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Dr. Asad M. Khan, met with H.E. Nurlan Yermekbayev, SCO Secretary General.
H.E. Nurlan Yermekbayev expressed his gratitude to Dr. Khan for visiting the SCO Secretariat and participating in the SCO Plus Summit. The SCO Secretary General informed that this year’s SCO Plus Summit in Tianjin would be the largest Summit in the entire SCO history, bringing together around 30 heads of state and leaders of international organizations.
Both sides, while discussing commonalities between the two organizations and sharing updates on the latest developments within their respective frameworks, emphasized the need for launching joint ECO-SCO activities.
The Secretaries General also discussed implementing the 2007 ECO-SCO Memorandum of Understanding and finalizing the Joint Plan of Action with a view to establishing solid cooperation mechanisms between the two organizations. The meeting further reaffirmed the commitment of ECO and SCO to strengthening regional partnerships, promoting cooperation, and leveraging synergies to benefit the broader region.
