On February 26, 2025, Dr. Asad M. Khan, the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation attended the 17th Annual Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA, held in Tehran, reaffirming the ECO’s commitment to advancing regional connectivity, sustainable transport development, and economic integration.

Expressing gratitude to the Permanent Secretariat of TRACECA for the invitation, the ECO Secretary General, in his address, emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in developing efficient and sustainable transport networks. He highlighted the ECO region’s strategic role in global trade and transit corridors, underscoring its dedication to strengthening interregional connectivity and climate resilience in the transport sector.

During the meeting, the Secretary General elaborated on the progress made by ECO in enhancing transport infrastructure, harmonizing policies, and promoting intermodal transport systems. He noted the operationalization of key corridors, including the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI), Kyrgyz Republic-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Türkiye (KUTIT), Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Türkiye (TUTIT), Bandar Abbas-Almaty, Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran (KTI), and Kyrgyz-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran-Türkiye (KTAI) railway corridors, which serve as vital links between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

The ECO Secretary General reaffirmed ECO’s unwavering support for TRACECA’s mission and vision, highlighting the necessity for continued collaboration to enhance transport efficiency, promote trade, and foster people-to-people connections. He expressed optimism that the outcomes of this meeting would contribute to shaping a more interconnected, prosperous, and resilient region.
