The coordination meeting on establishment of the ECO Clean Energy Centre (CECECO) was held in a virtual mode on 26 August 2024.

The representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, ECO Secretariat and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) participated at the online meeting. The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan is the host authority of the Centre, while UNIDO represents the ECO’s key international development partner in the Project on establishment of CECECO.

Mr. Orkhan Zeynalov, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan shared his insights on a way forward for speeding up the operationalization of the Centre. Mr. Fuad Farzalibeyov, Director of Energy, Minerals and Environment of the ECO Secretariat briefed the participants on the progress achieved in key tracks of cooperation within the preparatory phase of the subject project, most notably the regulatory procedures, project development and fund-raising activities. While highlighting the need in accelerating the mobilization of funds for the earliest operationalization of CECECO, the UNIDO representatives apprised the meeting of their engagements with potential development partners that may financially support the Centre.

The meeting agreed on the further steps in a short-term perspective that would enable the soonest launching the operational phase of the project by inauguration of the Centre on the sidelines of 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in November in Baku, Azerbaijan.
