The Drugs Control Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran hosted a ceremony in Tehran on June 26, 2022 to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking or World Drug Day. The event was attended by honorable President of the Islamic Republic of Iran H.E. Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi, Minister of Interior H.E. Mr. Ahmad Vahidi, Minister of Education H.E. Mr. Yousef Nouri, Minister of Sports and Youth H.E. Mr. Hamid Sajadi, other local dignitaries as well as the members of diplomatic community and the UN representative based in Iran.

Mr. Yousef Nouri, Minister of Sports and Youth H.E. Mr. Hamid Sajadi, other local dignitaries as well as the members of diplomatic community and the UN representative based in Iran.

His Excellency President Raeisi underscored the need for expanded cooperation amongst the nations to address the issues of illicit drugs and other related challenges. He emphasized that the global law enforcement agencies are required to make concerted efforts based their increased interactions, coordination and intelligence sharing to contain and disband the organized drug networks.

The Interior Minister underlined the existing requirements of Iran on drugs control. He explained various initiatives of Iran taken to fuel their fight against illicit drugs, including drug trafficking, consumption, demand and harm reduction.

The Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters Mr. Momeni highlighted Iran’s activities on drug control. He further noted the significant role of the Non-Government Organizations to support the relevant programs and projects in connection with capacity building and job creation for drug abusers.

The Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Iran Mr. Alexander Fedulov delivered statements on behalf of the UN Secretary General and UNODC Executive Director. He presented a detailed description of UNODC cooperation with the Government of Iran and the DCHQ in the field of border management and illicit trafficking, drug prevention, treatment and HIV care, Alternative Development and Sustainable Livelihoods.

The delegation of the Economic Cooperation Organization headed by Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Jandos Asanov also attended the ceremony.
