Convened in New York, the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development focused on SDG1 (no poverty) and SDG2 (zero hunger), with participation of Member States, NGOs and regional and international organizations.

The deliberations underlined importance of human-centric approaches in reforming fiscal policies and international financial architecture accordingly, and inclusion of vulnerable groups to labor market to achieve SDG1. The Forum elaborated on challenges concerning food security, economic slowdown, urbanization and regional conflicts for achieving SDG2, while emphasizing innovative financial instruments, expanding social protection and regulatory framework to achieve zero hunger globally.

During the interactive discussion, ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri highlighted that ECO adopted “sustainability” as a core principle in its Vision 2025, aligning with SDGs. The Organization has been keen on establishing strong partnerships with international and regional organizations to achieve SDGs in our region, he added.

Summarizing the regional prospects vis-à-vis SDGs, the Secretary General also informed the Forum about the challenges, as well as the existing mechanisms to support regional cooperation in achieving SDGs, including establishment of a High-Level Sustainable Development Working Group in the ECO region, and the 1st ECO Forum on Sustainable Development Goals set to be organized in Turkmenistan in 2024.
