On April 26, 2022, The Validation Meeting on the Projects in Minerals jointly organized by the Secretariat of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) and Experts from Tabriz University. The meeting was held virtually.
The representatives from ECO Member States, namely Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Türkiye as well as ECO Secretariat participated in the meeting.
At the inauguration of the meeting Dr. Huseyin Avni Bicakli, Deputy Secretary General of the ECO stated that ECO endeavors to assist its Member States in achieving sound and sustainable socio-economic development through combined activities, exchange of experiences and expertise, as well as certain joint projects and initiatives in the sphere of minerals with active participation of the Member States. Then, he emphasized importance of meeting to extend exceptional opportunity for the Member States to discuss and consider possibility to determine validity of these projects to be financed by ECO relevant funds along with your active involvement in them.
The chairman of the meeting, deputy general director of Geological Survey of Iran, Dr.Jafar Omrani recalled in his keynote speech outcome of the 6th and 7th ECO Experts Group Meeting in Minerals and highlighted benefits of the proposed projects of Iranian side that they may play an important role in mineral collaboration in the ECO Region.
Participants of the meeting discussed following projects by GSI:
- Preparing ECO-Environmental Quality Index (ECO-EQI) Map of the ECO Region
- Landslide Hazard Zonation (LHZ) of ECO Region
- Geochemical Exploration of Precious and Industrial Minerals in Desert lands in ECO region
- Spiroclast Map of Mobile Belt between Gondwana and Eurasia
