The 2nd ECOIsDBUNECE Workshop on eCMR in ECO Region was held virtually by the ECO Secretariat in collaboration with UNECE and IsDB on 3rd November 2021. The Workshop was highly welcomed with more than 60 participants from Member States and international organizations.

The 2nd ECOIsDBUNECE Workshop on eCMR in ECO Region was held virtually by the ECO Secretariat in collaboration with UNECE and IsDB on 3rd November 2021. The Workshop was highly welcomed with more than 60 participants from Member States and international organizations.

The different features of the eCMR protocol including concept, high level architecture, implementation and technical specifications were explained by the UNECE and the participants expressed their views and recommendations with regard to implementation of the protocol.

Mr. Akbar Khodaei, Director of Transport and Communication of the ECO Secretariat, while thanking the Member States, UNECE, and IsDB for their contribution to the project, referred to the decision of the ECO Ministers of Transport to digitize the transport documents and requested the relevant stake holders of both public and private sectors to help the ECO Secretariat to capture a full picture on all aspects of eCMR and how to implement this protocol taking into account the interests of the direct beneficiaries which are the private sector as well as indirect parties who may be involved in dealing with eCMR including customs and other players.

The representatives of the Member States also actively participated in the discussions and expressed their views on various aspects of the subject and appreciated the UNECE for the detailed and insightful presentation.

Mr. Yuwei Li, Director of Sustainable Transport of UNECE and Mr. Nazar Mohamed Eltahir Diab Senior Market Integration Specialist, Country Strategy and Cooperation Department from IsDB delivered their statement on the importance of regional cooperation on implementing the Protocol and expressed their support to such regional initiatives.

The Workshop ended with appreciation of the ECO Secretariat, UNECE and IsDB for organizing the technical meeting.
