3rd Meeting of ECO Geomatics Committee in Tehran

The 3^rd Meeting of ECO Geomatics Committee, hosted by the National Cartographic Center (NCC) of Islamic Republic of Iran was held virtually on 18 October 2021 in Tehran. The delegates from Azerbaijan, Iran (host), Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as ECO Secretariat delegation attended the Meeting.

At the opening, acting director general of NCC Iran, Dr.Ali Javidaneh expressed readiness working together with ECO Member States on mutual projects, share information and learn from each other’s knowledge. He also informed about institutional capacity of NCC Iran and revealed opportunities to export innovative technical and engineering services abroad.

Director for energy, minerals and environment at the ECO Secretariat, Rovshan Mirzayev in his opening remarks, emphasized importance of geomatics as a key to delivering timely data needed for governments, businesses, communities and citizens to make evidenced-based decisions. He also mentioned that common agenda on geomatics in ECO region can address key global challenges such as climate change, natural and other disasters, urbanization and food and water insecurity.

Dr.Ali Soltanpour, general manager of NCC Iran, Secretary of ECO Geomatics Committee, briefed on events organized since 2^nd meeting of ECO Geomatics Committee and called for more active involvement of Member States in the formation of ECO Economic Atlas, ECO Geomatics Journal and Capacity Building.

Member States ,“ Azerbaijan, Iran and Pakistan delivered key note speeches along with national reports on geomatics. Cooperation to establish ECO Geoportal, Reference Framework Network and ECO Regional Spatial Data Network were raised and supported among member states. Dr.Ali Soltanpour re-elected as a secretary to the ECO Geomatics Committee with consensus of participating states.
