The Sixth International Training Course on “Current Technologies and Trends in Various Levels of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI)” was held virtually on 23-24 September 2024. The training course was jointly co-organized by the National Cartographic Centre (NCC) of Iran and the ECO Secretariat.
The representatives from the Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran (host), Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Türkiye participated in this capacity-building event.
In his welcoming address, Dr. Ali Javidaneh, Director General of the NCC, while reflecting on the success of previous similar training courses, emphasized the role of efficient management and leveraging of geospatial data and SDI technologies in sustainable development and economic growth of the ECO region. Dr. Fuad Farzalibeyov, ECO Director for Energy, Minerals and Environment highlighted in his opening speech the importance ECO attaches to such capacity-building and awareness-raising activities, particularly in terms of fostering regional cooperation and enhancing institutional linkages.
Throughout two-day course, the participants were engaged with the leading experts and explored various aspects of SDI, including data visualization, interactive mapping, and effective communication strategies. The program was designed not only to impart theoretical knowledge but also to encourage practical application, enabling participants to transform insights into actionable strategies within their respective roles.
